Be The Change You Want To See In The World - Gandhi
Like millions (I hope) of others around the world, I have just watched the KONY 2012 video. I guess now is the perfect time for my first blog post because, as a journalism student, I view this video as pretty much the embodiment of how strong an impact all the different forms of journalism can have. Social media and networking sites are now one of the main forums to spread news so they are a very powerful tool for all journalists who have a story that they believe needs to be told. I truly hope that this video achieves the aim it's makers are hoping for (I am not going to explain the aim because then you may not watch the video... and my words could hardly do this project justice). People are often affected by things they see such as this video but usually the impact just isn't strong enough, it doesn't last and soon it loses people's attention... With KONY 2012, I think things really could be different. There's a clear goal, there are targets that have been set and easy small steps that could culminate into something huge. I have so much admiration for the people who have organised this movement (notably Jason Russell) because they have made their goal attainable. It's not something that will easily be forgotten and they have planned it perfectly. I hope everyone watches this video and does something about it... it is particularly relevant for all of us studying journalism - we can all learn something from this. Personally, I think this speaks volumes about how much social networking sites can aid spreading awareness about issues affecting the world and we can all learn from Jason Russell in his approach to make his view heard and stand out. I am very impressed by his usage of social media as a platform to share and advertise his video. Well, that's all from me for now, I'm going online to buy a KONY 2012 bracelet. I urge everyone else to (at the very least) watch the video.

Jason Russell was recently arrested for being drunk and indecent in public - will this and (more importantly) should it affect the value of the campaign?
